New to bike racing? Start here

What is the Berkeley Omnium?

The Berkeley Omnium is a weekend of bike racing in and around Berkeley, organized by volunteers from the Berkeley Bicycle Club. The next one is April 17–18, 2027.

  • Berkeley Hills Road Race: a Northern California tradition raced since 1957. 2026 was its 70th edition.
  • Berkeley Streets Criterium: fast laps on closed streets beside Ohlone Park, and free to watch. The same riders come past every couple of minutes, which makes it an easy race to enjoy even if you've never watched one.

What's an omnium? A competition that adds up results from more than one race to crown an overall winner. Here, that's one road race and one criterium.

The local story

Racers don't just race and leave.

A race weekend brings hundreds of racers into Berkeley, and most don't come alone. Teammates, partners, kids and friends come to cheer. Between and after races, they're your customers. We don't have spending figures to quote, so here's simply what a race weekend looks like.

Before

Breakfast and coffee

Criterium fields start from early morning, so racers and their supporters are looking for coffee and a good breakfast near the course.

Between

A day in downtown Berkeley

With a dozen races through the day, teammates and families have hours between starts to walk downtown, eat lunch, shop and explore.

After

The post-race meal

Teams celebrate, refuel and swap stories. That usually means a table for six, eight or more.

Overnight

Somewhere to stay

Racers who come for both days, or from outside the Bay Area, need a place to sleep and somewhere safe for their bikes.

Later

Coming back

Visitors who find a favorite cafe, bike shop or restaurant on race weekend often come back for rides, races and weekends in Berkeley.

Sponsorship is a way to connect those visitors with the Berkeley businesses they'd otherwise walk past.

Visibility

Put your business in front of the cycling community.

We'd rather your business show up where racers actually make decisions, about where to eat, stay and shop, than only on a banner for one morning.

Where the money goes

Proceeds go back into youth cycling.

The Berkeley Omnium isn't run to make a profit for anyone. It's organized by volunteers, and event proceeds from registration, sponsorship and donations support East Bay high school mountain bike teams in the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA): Berkeley, El Cerrito, Albany, Skyline, Oakland Tech and Oakland Composite.

That money helps teams with equipment, coaching and race opportunities, so more young riders can get on bikes.

Racing in Berkeley. Supporting Berkeley.

Be part of the visitor experience, not just a logo grid.

When people travel to the Berkeley Omnium, we want them to discover where to eat, where to get coffee, where to stay, where to shop and what to do before and after racing. Our race-weekend guides already answer those questions for visiting racers. Partners can be part of those answers.
