Youth cycling sponsorship

Help the next generation of riders get on bikes.

Every Berkeley Omnium sends money back into youth cycling: East Bay high school mountain bike teams, a free kids clinic, a free kids race and junior racing. Sponsors make more of it possible.

Youth cycling, explained

What does youth cycling sponsorship support?

Youth cycling sponsorship at the Berkeley Omnium supports three things: the East Bay high school mountain bike teams that receive event proceeds, the free kids clinic and kids race on race weekend, and junior racing on both days. The Berkeley Omnium is organized by volunteers from the Berkeley Bicycle Club.

In 2026, proceeds went to Berkeley High School, El Cerrito High School, Albany High School, Skyline High School, Oakland Tech High School and Oakland Composite, high school teams in the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). The money helps with equipment, coaching, race opportunities and team programs.

On race weekend

Young riders are part of the race.

  • Kids skills clinic and kids race: free, on the Berkeley Streets course, for young riders and their families. Trek hosted the clinic in 2026 and Mr. Dewie's provided ice cream for the kids race.
  • Junior racing: in the most recent race information, 4 junior fields raced the Berkeley Hills Road Race and 2 junior races ran at Berkeley Streets.
  • Beginner Race Program: junior and Novice entries have included a short skills session on the criterium course before racing.

Ways to support youth cycling

Where your support can go.

Starting points to shape with us. Each partnership is agreed with the organizing committee.

  • The kids raceA free race for young riders on the Berkeley Streets course, with a crowd cheering them on. Sponsors can help with prizes, treats and the costs of putting it on.
  • The kids skills clinicA free clinic before the kids race that teaches young riders bike handling. Trek hosted it in 2026. Equipment, coaching and helmets for kids who need them are all ways to help.
  • Junior racingJunior fields race both days. Prizes and podium support for junior racers matter; in 2026, Tempo Endurance Coaching & Fitting gave back to junior racers and podium winners.
  • NICA high school teamsEvent proceeds go to East Bay NICA teams for equipment, coaching and race opportunities. Sponsorship grows what the Omnium can give back.
  • Giving through KaiVeloCompanies that need a nonprofit recipient can give through the KaiVelo Foundation, developed from the Berkeley Bicycle Club, on KaiVelo's own donation page.
  • Your peopleEmployee volunteers at the kids clinic, the kids race and the registration table make youth racing possible.

For community-impact teams

Impact you can point to.

The Berkeley Bicycle Club publishes where Berkeley Omnium proceeds go: named teams and a dollar amount. If your company needs specific information for its community-impact reporting, ask us and we'll tell you honestly what we can provide.

The club's youth work goes beyond race weekend too:

  • BBCjr: Helps kids get started on bicycles and discover the freedom and fun of riding.
  • Loaner Bike Fleet: The club is continually adding bikes to its loaner fleet to help more riders get started.
  • Monarch Juniors: A club-sponsored program for junior racing development.
  • Skyline NICA Team: A club-member-sponsored youth racing team.
  • Early Bird & Late Bird: BBC members volunteer as mentors for skills, confidence-building, and race fundamentals.

Giving to a nonprofit

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation developed from the Berkeley Bicycle Club to promote recreational and competitive cycling in the SF Bay Area. In KaiVelo's words: "The KaiVelo Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible."

KaiVelo says it has raised $250,000+ in cash and equipment for local high school mountain bike teams, raised together with the Berkeley Bicycle Club.
