The story
From Malaysia to Berkeley.
In April 2025, Mohamad and Iezmie Jamian of Ironwan Cycling/EisoVelo came from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, more than 8,000 miles away, and lined up in the Men's Cat 4 field at the Berkeley Hills Road Race.
They didn't stop there. The next weekend they raced Rio Strada Racing's Golden State Race Series in Rancho Cordova, where Mohamad won the Cat 4 overall and Iezmie finished second in the Cat 4 sprint competition.
Bike racing has always had a way of making the world feel smaller. Different teams, different countries, and everyone meets on the same start line. For one day in April 2025, the start line of a Northern California road race reached all the way to Malaysia.

The Berkeley Hills Road Race has been a Northern California race since 1957. In 2025, two of its riders came from the other side of the Pacific.
Mohamad and Iezmie Jamian raced Berkeley on April 26, then headed to the Sacramento area for the Golden State Race Series, May 2 to 4. Two races on two weekends, one long trip.

On the start line
Different countries. Same start line.
Results are only part of this story, but they're a good part. At Berkeley, the Jamians raced the combined Men's Cat 4 and Collegiate B field in the East Bay hills.
A week later at the Golden State Race Series, Mohamad won the Cat 4 overall across the time trial, criterium and circuit race, and Iezmie took second in the Cat 4 sprint competition.

The Jamians' trip is the best version of what we hope every visiting racer does: race Berkeley, then keep racing. The Berkeley Omnium runs in April, and Rio Strada Racing's Golden State Race Series follows in the Sacramento area. If you're traveling to race California, make it a two-race trip.
