The story
Up the coast from Los Angeles.
L39ION of Los Angeles was founded in 2019 by brothers Justin and Cory Williams with the goal of increasing diversity and inclusion in cycling. The 39 in the name is 39th Street in Los Angeles, where the brothers grew up.
By 2023 it was a professional team, and on April 29 that year Tyler Williams won the men's Pro/1/2/3 race at the Berkeley Hills Road Race, with teammate Samuel Boardman 4th.

The 2023 Berkeley Hills Road Race
A pro team's win in the Berkeley hills.
Williams raced professionally for Axeon–Hagens Berman and Israel Cycling Academy before L39ION. In 2021 Williams won the Joe Martin Stage Race, the Athens Twilight Criterium and the USA Cycling Pro Road Tour, and in 2023 finished 2nd in the US national road race.
At Berkeley, the rest of the field was Bay Area club riders and local teams. The same climbs, the same start line.
