The story
Generations of NorCal racing.
San Jose Bicycle Club has been racing since 1939. For more than eight decades it has built a tradition of amateur racing and rider development, with a stated commitment to helping beginning and junior cyclists grow through coaching and organized racing.
That makes SJBC a natural part of the Berkeley Omnium story. The Omnium exists for many of the same reasons: create races, develop riders, give people a place to compete, and keep the local racing community alive.
The club has committed itself to the nurturing and development of beginning and junior cyclists through coaching and organized racing events. Our real focus is on our members, whether they be Category 1 champions or riders new to competitive cycling.

Different teams. Different histories. The same commitment to local racing.
SJBC riders make the trip up from San Jose to race the Berkeley Hills Road Race and the Berkeley Streets Criterium, and SJBC is among the teams whose members help make the Omnium possible.
More than race day
The grassroots infrastructure of amateur racing.
SJBC doesn't only race. It creates places for riders to learn and to race.
Its Winter Series is, in SJBC's words, a fun and informal intro to road racing: an optional skills clinic for group riding and racing, then a time trial, a hill climb, a road race and a criterium, open to members and nonmembers.
Its summer Twilight Series runs weeknight criteriums with a group for new riders and a juniors race.
And SJBC runs the Cat's Hill Classic in downtown Los Gatos, a race first held in 1974 that celebrated its 50th edition in 2026. Keeping a race that old alive takes exactly the kind of commitment the Berkeley Hills Road Race depends on.
This is exactly the kind of grassroots racing that keeps the whole sport healthy.

Cat's Hill Classic
Downtown Los Gatos, since 1974. 50th edition in 2026
Run by SJBC. A criterium on a one-mile loop that climbs Nicholson Avenue, the original Cat's Hill.

Winter Series
Each fall

Why we all need each other
- The NorCal calendar only works because many clubs, teams, promoters, officials and volunteers keep putting on events.
- BBC doesn't need to be the only successful club. SJBC doesn't need to be the only successful team, and Super Sprinkles doesn't need to be the only successful organization. We need all of them to succeed.
- When SJBC creates opportunities to race in San Jose, it helps Berkeley racers.
- When Berkeley puts on the Berkeley Hills Road Race and Berkeley Streets, it gives SJBC racers another place to compete.
- When other clubs organize races, clinics and development programs, the entire ecosystem gets stronger.
