The story
Four decades of NorCal racing.
Rio Strada Racing has been part of Northern California bike racing since 1982, and calls itself one of the oldest bicycle racing teams in California. Today it fields men's and women's teams in every category from Cat 5 to Pro 1/2, racing road, criterium, cyclocross, gravel, mountain bike and time trial.
Rio Strada doesn't only line up at other people's races. Every spring it promotes the Golden State Race Series in Rancho Cordova. Great bike races survive because strong cycling communities keep showing up, and Rio Strada has been showing up for more than forty years.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting competitive cycling, developing riders of all levels, supporting junior athletes, and giving back to the communities we serve.

From Sacramento to the Berkeley hills.
Rio Strada riders made the drive down from Sacramento to race in Berkeley, joining clubs and teams from across Northern California and beyond.

Rio Strada sums up its history as “40+ years of racing and teaching,” and the teaching part shows. Riders who came through the team include Mike Sayers, now a USA Cycling Under 23 coach, World Masters Track Champion Vince Gee and National Juniors Champion Bryan Larson.
That history still shapes the team today: a nonprofit with a stated commitment to developing riders of all levels and supporting junior athletes, with room on the roster for a first-time Cat 5 and a Pro 1/2 racer alike.

More than racers
Rio Strada also puts on a race.
Each spring Rio Strada sponsors and promotes the Golden State Race Series in Rancho Cordova, organized with Visit Rancho Cordova. The 22nd edition runs April 30 to May 2, 2027, with fields from Cat 5 to Pro 1/2 for men, women and juniors, plus kids races.
For 2027, Rio Strada says a portion of event proceeds will go to support junior racers in the event. Running a race takes permits, volunteers, officials and a lot of unpaid hours. Every club that takes that on gives the rest of us another place to race.
